“Rame” leather belt by Jane Watts of ‘Another Shed Production’.

Every part of the belt and buckle are hand made.

The buckle is created using wrought iron pins recovered from the wreck of the SS James Eagan Layne.  Each pin is indvidually chosen for its character and forged to make a unique buckle.  70 plus years under the sea the pins take on an amazing patina.

Each belt is cut to fit the buckle using British waxed shoulder leather. The edges are hand finished and saddled stitched with coloured waxed twine and the trade mark “X” keeper.

Belt width 35mm.  Size 32″ – 36″.

Description

Forged buckles from salvaged wreck metal and hand stitched leather goods – Jane’s work reflects the ruggedness of coastal living.

For the South Hams based metal and leather worker life revolves around the sea. Taking selected pieces of salvaged metal from South West shipwrecks she individually forges and hand finishes buckles to be used on her hand stitched belts, bags and pouches.

Jane is all about making functional items with an element of the unexpected. The making process is a major design feature, from the exposed hand stitching and the patina of the metal all evidence of hand made. Her work is robust and made to be worn and used every day, to spark conversation, to remember our past and to embrace the beauty and simplicity of traditional crafts.
